Where: Waterfront Promenade, The Dubai Mall
When: March 12th - April 15th, 2018
A traveling exhibit by Lateral Office and CS Design, ‘Wave-Field’ is an interactive and immersive installation which encourages visitors and passers-by to partake in an extraordinary sensory experience. It is comprised of 16 illuminated see-saws that, when activated by momentum, create an experiential urban playground.
The installation invites the community to participate in the creation of art in a playful way. Each see-saw features a unique soundscape and with every rise and fall, a new sound is discovered. Through interaction, ‘Wave-Field’ forms an ever-changing orchestra of sound and light.
About the artists:
Lateral Office is an architecture practice founded in 2003 by Mason White and Lola Sheppard; their work operates at the intersection of architecture, landscape, and urbanism. The studio describes its practice process as a commitment to design as a research vehicle to pose and respond to complex, urgent questions in the built environment, engaging in the wider context and climate of a project– social, ecological, or political. Sheppard and White’s work has been exhibited extensively, including participation in the 2017 Seoul Biennale, the 2015 Chicago Biennale and the 2014 Venice Biennale. Lateral Office was awarded a 2016 RAIC Urban Design Award for Impulse, a Special Mention at the 2014 Venice Biennale for Architecture, a PA award in 2013 and the 2012 Holcim Gold for Sustainable Construction for North America, for their project Arctic Food Network.
CS Design was formed in 2008 to fill the need for responsive, non-partial, lighting design consultation in the field of architecture. Approaching lighting design from the perspective of the architect and the designer, CS Design seeks to complement and elevate architectural designs with a simple and integrated approach.
